Community Grants Program

At NM Insurance we are always looking for new opportunities to support the communities we live and work within.

 

After a year, we’ve given six Community Grants to deserving groups in Australia and New Zealand. The NM Insurance Community Program is currently paused, stay tuned for further updates.

About the Grant Program

At NM Insurance we are always looking for new opportunities to support the communities we live and work within. Our desire to make a difference at a community level has led us to launch the NM Insurance Community Grants Program.

This program provides grants to community-based initiatives focused around boating, caravanning, or motorcycling. The NM Insurance Community Grants Program perfectly aligns with our core company value of doing what is right and building respect and trust through integrity, reliability and authenticity.

What We Fund

The NM Insurance Community Grants Program supports community initiatives based around the recreational private pleasurecraft, motorcycle and caravan industries.

All applications for a NM Insurance Community Grant will be assessed by a Committee and must fit within at least one of these funding categories to be eligible for consideration. Applications will only be considered for grants that align with and support the purpose of the program.

A maximum Grant limit applies and a maximum of one application and one Grant can be submitted by / paid to an organisation in any one year with the identity of an applicant and potential Grant recipient being verified prior to the acceptance of an application.

What Isn’t Eligible?

Unfortunately, there are some causes we can’t support, such as:

Sponsorship of local sporting teams, religious organisations or churches (unless benefitting a target community)

Political parties

Government entities including schools

Applications relating to budget deficit programs

Applications relating to general operating expenses or capital investment

Initiatives not aligned with the purpose of the Program

Steadfast Group Ltd (ABN 98 073 659 677) (‘SGL’) has a majority shareholding in NM Insurance. SGL may receive a professional services fee (PSF) from insurers, premium funders and underwriting agencies such as NM Insurance (Partner) for access to regulatory and compliance support; marketing and communications; data insights; and access to technology platforms. The PSF is an agreed amount between SGL and the relevant Partner, usually annually. The PSF is not determined by the volume of the business that the Steadfast Network brokers place, nor is the amount of the PSF known to the Steadfast Network Brokers, so it is not able to influence recommendations to their clients.

NM Insurance may have access to shared services from SGL, including: compliance tools; procedures; manuals and training; legal; HR banking; and group purchasing arrangements. These services are funded by SGL, subsidised by SGL or SGL receives a fee for them.

Stuart Lamont

CEO, Caravan Industry Association of Australia (CIAA)

Stuart Lamont has been the CEO of Caravan Industry Association of Australia since 2014; during this time Stuart has been a champion for regional tourism and the role the Caravan Industry plays as a key economic contributor to local communities.  Communities that are often dependent on visitor expenditure.  He is a passionate advocate for the industry and ensures that issues impacting operators are heard by and kept front of mind for politicians.

Stuart is an active leader in the domestic and international tourism landscape having successfully led the Caravan Industry through the challenges presented by the COVID pandemic.  Even with the challenges over the last couple of years, the caravan and camping industry has consistently remained the largest domestic tourism sector and for the year ending Sept 2021 more than 12.8 million caravan and camping trips and over 52.1 million nights were recorded.  The sector is also the leading provider of holiday nights of any accommodation offering in Australia.

In addition to his duties as CEO of Caravan Industry Association of Australia, is also the long-term director of Australian Regional Tourism and the Chair of World RV Committee.

Suzanne Davies

CEO, Marina Industries Association (MIA)

Suzanne is the CEO of the Marina Industries Association, a position she has held since mid-2020 and follows 15 years in senior management roles in the marina industry, including CEO d’Albora Marinas and 12 years as General Manager of The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club. Prior to the marina industries, Suzanne held senior roles in large domestic and international hotel management companies, and enjoyed several years in the education sector as an undergraduate lecturer.

Suzanne was a Director of the MIA 2012- 2020, serving as Treasurer for most of her tenure. She has been a Director of Australian Sailing since 2019 and has recently joined the Seavolt Marine Charging Networks Advisory Board.

As the MIA’s Insurance Partner, Suzanne works closely with the many in the Nautilus Marine Insurance team to maximise NMI industry engagement. She is a contributor to the NM Magazine and serves on the NM Insurance Community Grants Program Committee.

Gina Costello

Marketing Assistant Manager, Kawasaki Motors Australia

Gina Costello is a sales and marketing professional in the motorcycle industry, who has brought her expertise to Kawasaki Motors Australia since 2011. Prior to joining Kawasaki, she gained valuable experience in the motorcycle retail environment.

A background in engineering with qualifications in product design and civil design enables Gina to bring a diverse skill set, beyond sales and marketing, to the NM Insurance Community Grants Program. Gina ran her own design business in Melbourne and has been involved in volunteer work with local sports clubs.

Gina enjoys escaping on her Ninja and the love for motorcycles has developed into a dedication to the industry and a drive to get more people involved. Gina’s commitment to customer satisfaction is unwavering, and she is determined to provide memorable experiences, quality products, and reliable support.

As part of the Kawasaki team, Gina works closely with the NM Insurance team to maximise industry engagement with customers. She looks forward to seeing the NM Insurance Community Grants Program grow and provide support to the communities involved.

Lyndon Turner

Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director

Lyndon has been at the helm of NM Insurance since 2007 and with his strong team, he has been the driving force behind the company’s growth and diversification. With over 25 years insurance industry experience, Lyndon has previously held numerous senior management positions and worked across all insurance functions including claims, underwriting, broking, advocacy, and development. “We are close to our customers and passionate about providing the best experience, products and support,” says Lyndon. “ “Our team combine strong technical knowledge of assets, and the liabilities that arise from their usage, with impressive insurance experience to deliver the best outcomes. Put simply, we are passionate insurance experts who know our stuff, and our expertise helps both our customers and business partners.” Lyndon is a Senior Associate of the ANZIIF, a founding steering committee member of New Zealand Underwriting Agencies Council, a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, former Chair of the Underwriting Agencies Council (Australia) and a former Director of the Boating Industry Association. Away from work, Lyndon is a passionate boatie and trail rider and enjoys sharing that lifestyle with family and friends.

Lesley Hambusch

Head of Legal, Compliance and Training

A qualified lawyer in both Australia and the United Kingdom, Lesley has 17 years legal and compliance experience. Prior to joining NM Insurance in 2019, Lesley’s career was split equally between private legal practice for insurance and financial services clients and in-house legal and regulatory roles. Having specialised in financial services regulation throughout her career, Lesley has advised organisations of all shapes and sizes from global insurers to national brokerages and underwriting agencies, to fintechs, regtechs and start-ups. “I’m a business, consumer and regulatory advocate all in one,” says Lesley. “Put simply, sound legal, risk and compliance management provides a competitive advantage, and is key to responsible enterprise, brand maintenance and sustainable growth.” Lesley is a member of the Law Society of NSW and the Law Society of England and Wales.

Neha Taskar

Head of Marketing, Brand, and Communications

A passionate marketing leader with over 15 years of experience, Neha’s expertise spans all facets of marketing including strategy, brand management, communications, sponsorships and events. Prior to joining NM Insurance in 2019, Neha held senior roles at leading Australian retailers, telecommunications and financial services companies, specialising in insurance for the last five years. “I’m constantly inspired by the passion of all my NM Insurance colleagues,” says Neha. “Their deep knowledge and dynamic engagement make NM Insurance who we are.” Neha holds a Masters in Communication and Media Studies, Bachelors Degree in Mass Media (Advertising) and a Graduate Diploma in Public Relations.
